I’ve never been so happy to see a gooseberry in my life!
I absolutely love gardening. I find it so relaxing and it’s the only form of exercise I enjoy! I’m not at all green fingered, but I’ve realised you don’t have to be. I just plant things and hope for the best! Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s all a learning curve.
Last summer I bought a tomato grow bag with every intention of growing my own tomatoes, but I never got round to planting anything in it! Whilst being at home during lockdown, I thought I’d put it to good use and try and grow something. I got the kids involved as part of their “science” lessons and we soon found ourselves addicted to planting things to see what we could grow! I’ve even made a frame for our veg patch out of some old skirting boards I had in the garage! It’s all a bit rustic, but it does the job!
So far, I’ve planted gooseberries, raspberries, cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, potatoes and various herbs. Finally, I’m starting to see things happen and I honestly can’t believe how excited I got at the sight of my first gooseberry! The raspberries are just starting to turn red and the kids are so excited about picking them soon! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all been a success. I’ve tried 3 times to grow mint from seed, to no avail, and my lettuces look like they’ve lost the will to live, but who cares! We have gooseberries and raspberries!
Wendy has caught the growing bug too, but she’s doing it in a much more professional way than me! She’s bought proper veg trugs and everything! She now has an array of vegetables growing in her garden and her aim is to see if she can become completely self-sustainable. It will be amazing if between us we can get a continuous supply of fruit and veg!
Perhaps have a go at growing something yourself! You don’t need a lot of space; you can grow most things in pots if you only have a small outside area. It’s really rewarding and as you know, eating a variety of fruits and vegetables is a must for healthy, glowing skin! If you are using Meadow products you are already giving your skin an amazing boost of plant nutrition, so why not top this up with some fruit and vegetables you’ve grown yourself! Yummy! Kelly x
