Over these past few winter months, you may have received a cleansing balm or moisturising balm that felt grainier than usual due to the mango butter misbehaving in the cold weather! Wendy and I have been working tirelessly to remedy this as we want our customers to experience the smooth, buttery texture that you’ve all come to love! Although we love the benefits of mango butter, it’s diva-like behaviour just got too much so we’ve now removed it and replaced it with a far superior butter called capuacu (pronounced coo-poo-assoo).
Cupuacu is an exotic fruit native to the Amazonian rainforest. The butter is extracted from the seeds of the capuacu tree and is proven to improve skin hydration and reduce trans-epidermal water loss. Trust me when I say it leaves skin feeling so soft and conditioned! Many use cupuacu butter to help treat conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Wendy and I were blown away by how much softer our skin was after using it in the new formulations! It sinks straight into the skin with no greasy residue, making the moisturising balm more suitable for those of us with oilier skin types than before.
As always, we have ensured that our new ingredient is sustainably sourced and we have full traceability. The capuacu seeds are wild harvested and the collection of the seeds is carried out with the involvement of the local forest communities. Each Cupuaçu tree yields between 20-30 fruits per season and each fruit contains around 30-50 seeds that would otherwise be discarded when the fruit’s pulp is extracted to make desserts and beverages. By using the seeds to make butter, growers can get the most out of each plant, each year.
